High school basketball player Maximo Adams followed in the footsteps of his father, Marcus Adams Sr., who played basketball for clubs like Cosecha in Chaco.

Maximo’s father, Marcus Adams, was a professional basketball player known by the nickname “La Pantera” (The Panther).

Born in the United States, Marcus Adams Sr. made a name for himself in Argentina’s basketball scene during the 1980s and 1990s.

Marcus played college basketball at UNLV before taking his talents overseas for professional basketball.

He played for several clubs, including Cosecha in Chaco, as well as Sportsmen Unidos and Ciclón in Rosario.

His skills on the court earned him respect in Argentina’s competitive basketball leagues.

Marcus’s experience as a professional athlete likely influenced Maximo’s passion for the sport, providing a firsthand example of what it takes to succeed in basketball.

Sadly, Marcus passed away in February 2026 at the age of 69, due to complications from a stroke.

Whereas his mother, Delfina Adams, hails from Rosario, Argentina. Besides this, not much is known about her.

In an interview, Maximo spoke about his connection to Argentina through his mother, Delfina, saying, “My mom’s from Rosario, and I’ve spent a lot of time there with my family. It’s a big part of who I am.

has openly expressed his gratitude and love for his parents, especially during tough times.

Just a day after his father’s passing in February 2026, Maximo led Serra basketball to a playoff win over Arcadia.

In an emotional interview, he said that his game meant a lot to him and he played the game for his father, saying:

I’m just trying to get by this hard time and face this adversity. This game meant a lot, just going out there and playing my game for my dad and putting in the effort just like he wanted me to.

Likewise, he opened up about the influence of his father’s demise on his decision to transfer from BYU to a school closer to home, as he wanted to support his mother and brother. He said:

Losing my father was really hard, and I wasn’t there when (the stroke) happened. I had to travel there at one in the morning and go to the hospital in his last moments.
I need to return back home to be closer to my family. I need to be closer to my mom and my little brother who is growing up without a father figure.

This gesture speaks volumes about his love and sense of responsibility toward his mother, Delfina, and Maximo.
