The Southern Crescent Technical College community, along with countless others across the state, is mourning the loss of Coach James Waldon, a respected figure in both athletics and education.
News of his passing was shared with deep sorrow by DJ Hardy, Athletics Coordinator at Southern Crescent, in an emotional tribute.
He wrote,
“🕊️ In Memoriam: Coach James Waldon 🕊️
It is with a heavy heart that I share the news of the passing of Coach James Waldon. I never imagined I would have to type this post. His wife, Karen Waldon, wanted me to share this news with the community.
Coach Waldon was not only a remarkable coach but also a mentor and friend to many. His dedication, passion, and wisdom have left an indelible mark on all of us who had the privilege to work with him.
Rest in peace, Coach Waldon. You will be deeply missed.”
James Waldon Had A Legacy Of Coaching
Coach Waldon served as the women’s basketball coach at Southern Crescent Technical College, bringing years of experience, energy, and compassion to his team.
Before that, he led as Head Women’s Basketball Coach at Georgia Perimeter College, leaving behind a legacy of discipline, heart, and leadership.
In the past, Coach Waldon dedicated himself to the next generation as a Health and Physical Education teacher at Panola Way Elementary School.
His approach to teaching and coaching was grounded in empathy and strength, always aiming to empower his students and athletes.
Coach Waldon studied Health and Physical Education at Edward Waters College, where his love for athletics took a professional shape.
He was a proud alumnus of Phillis Wheatley High School and initially hailed from Houston, Texas.
Moreover, he had made his home in Griffin, Georgia, where he became a beloved figure within the community.
