They were impressed by the Ruston Sports Complex and its ability to host a tournament the size of the 50th Anniversary World Series. That, and Ruston’s hospitality, prompted them to ask us to bid for the 2026 World Series.”

It featured around 80-90 teams from 10 Southern states, including Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.

The event attracted a large number of visitors, positively affecting the local economy and providing a boost to businesses in Ruston.

Controversy Erupted After Team Florida Alleged Umpire of Cheating At The 2026 Dixie Golden Anniversary World Series

The semifinal match between Team Florida and a Louisiana-based team ended in controversy.

The a high-stakes inning when Florida’s defensive player appeared to make a clean and decisive tag at home plate, resulting in the runner being called out.

However, confusion swept through the stadium moments later when the umpire positioned near shortstop reversed the decision, ruling the obstruction had occurred.

The ruling awarded the runner the go-ahead run despite there being no visible interference, no physical contact, and no violation of base path rules by the Florida defender.

However, the home plate umpire, who had the clear view, made the original out call, did not object to the reversal, and further sparked claims of internal coordination.

The fallout was intense. Following the incident, coaches, fans, and officials voiced their outrage both on the field and online.

Many people pointed out that the defensive player was set up in the fair territory, away from the direct base path.

The video of that incident was also shared on social media by Ashley Hawes from Okeechobee, Florida. She captioned,

Here’s how we got robbed by the umpires in the Dixie Golden Anniversary World Series 2026 ….. play at home runner gets tagged out and then over turned for obstruction.. 👀 Runner goes to the dugout , and then the field ump had it turned over at the home plate. My girls are still #1 in my eyes. This was their tournament and the umpires took it. .

Video evidence seemed to support the claim that the obstruction call was unfounded and inconsistent with standard rule interpretations.

Several spectators alleged that calls throughout the week consistently favored Louisiana-based teams during high-pressure situations.

Charlie Livermore of Port Saint Lucie, Florida, ,

25 years as an Umpire and there are judgement calls and then there are bad calls, this was a bad call. The defense player was not in the base path and did not in any way obstruct the runners ability to advance to the plate

Ashley Hawes, who at B Johns Fencing, wrote,

the home ump was with them the whole time. The field up was out at short stop! and neither girl was in the path of any baserunner ..

One of the former umpires described the call as “a textbook example of bad overturn, not a judgment call, a flat-out mistake that changed the outcome of the game.”
