Kyrin “Ace” Gilstrap Shumpert, a ninth-grade student at Union Freshman Academy, was among eight victims killed in a fiery head-on collision in Franklin County, Kansas, on May 4, 2026.

Let alone Kyrin, the devastating crash also claimed the life of his father, Jaimon Gilstrap, a member of Tulsa Public Schools’ transportation department and a coach for the Oklahoma Chaos team.

The heartwrenching loss of both father and son has affected their family, especially Kyrin’s mother and Jaimon’s wife, Delisha, referred to as .

She has yet to break the silence surrounding the devastating car accident that took the lives of her loved ones.

Kyrin, a freshman at Union Public Schools’ Freshman Academy, was remembered as a promising young athlete.

Affectionately known as “Ace” to his teammates, he was a rising star in the Tulsa basketball community. He was admired for his dedication and spirit both on and off the court.

Meanwhile, details surrounding Kyrin and his father’s funeral services have yet to be published by the family.

Union Public Schools Superintendent Dr. John Federline expressed the district’s profound grief in a statement:

It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that I share the news of the tragic passing of one of our 9th grade students who died in a car accident yesterday. On behalf of the entire Union Public Schools community, I extend our deepest condolences to the student’s family, friends, and loved ones.

The fatal crash occurred just before 6 p.m. on U.S. Highway 169 near Virginia Road, when two vehicles collided head-on and burst into flames, according to the Kansas Highway Patrol.

The victims were part of the “Oklahoma Chaos,” a competitive traveling basketball team returning from a tournament.

Eight lives were lost, including Kyrin, his father Jaimon, Booker T. Washington High School student Donald “DJ” Laster, and youth basketball coach Wayne Walls.

One person, identified as Walls’s son, survived but was hospitalized in critical condition. Meanwhile, the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
