The Utah Falconz Women’s Football community, along with family and friends, is suffering from the sudden and heartbreaking loss of their head coach, Cecil Chang, who passed away at the age of 65.
Cecil’s infectious positivity and dedication made his death a huge loss for those who knew him.
His legacy, however, lives on through his family, his team, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and passion.
Cecil Chang, originally from Honolulu, Hawaii, was a proud graduate of Roosevelt High School.
His Hawaiian roots shaped his warm, welcoming personality, often described as one that represents “aloha.”
This spirit of love, compassion, and community defined every aspect of his life, from his 41-year marriage to his wife, Lisa Chang, to his role as a devoted father to seven children and a doting grandfather to 22 grandchildren.
Candace Colvin, one of Cecil’s daughters, shared a heartfelt tribute, painting a picture of a man who lived for his family:
“Last night we said a reluctant and sudden goodbye. This was a man that loved his family and wanted to make sure we were all happy and always wanted the best for mom, his kids, and our families. His grandkids were his whole world, and he made sure to call them almost daily.
She spoke of his creative mind, his constant pursuit of dreams, and his desire to help his family succeed.
Whether it was blasting music so loud the house would “rattle” or coaching with unmatched enthusiasm, Cecil’s presence was impressive.
As Head Coach Of The Utah Falconz, Cecil Was More Than Just A Leader On The Field
He was a mentor, a motivator, and a believer in the potential of every player.
The team’s statement captured the depth of his influence:
His ability to bring joy, laughter, and growth to the team made him a beloved figure, not only to the players but also to their families.
Vicki Caldwell Morgan, a parent and “team mom,” wrote on Cecil’s dedication:
“He truly cared about each player on the Utah Falconz… not just as athletes, but as amazing women growing into something greater. Coach would want you to keep showing up—with heart, with grit, and with that team spirit he worked so hard to build.”
ViaCecil’s vision for the Falconz was bold and inspiring. He poured his heart into the team, instilling discipline, love, and a sense of family.
His passing leaves the team facing an uncertain season, but his influence will undoubtedly guide them forward.
Beyond coaching, Cecil was a driven professional with a diverse career.
He worked as a broker partner at ProCommerce Capital and held roles such as Mortgage Loan Officer at Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, Account Manager at Textron Financial Corporation and Household Finance Corporation, Branch Assistant Manager at Western Financial Savings Bank, Account Executive at Green Tree Commercial Finance, and even Ranch Manager at BorgWarner.
His cousin, Eric K. Keawe, shared how Cecil followed in his footsteps in the finance world, moving his family to San Diego to work for Transamerica Finance Corporation before settling in Saratoga Springs, Utah, where he built a life with Lisa and their children.
Eric’s tribute highlighted their close bond:
“He was my wing man when I needed his kokua. He took a leap off the mountain and followed the financial path I was in… The business has changed so much that he became an independent contractor, the rest is history.”
ViaCecil’s adaptability and determination were evident in every endeavor he pursued.
Many People Expressed Their Love And Support After Cecil Died, Showing The Impact He Had On Those Around Him
Friends, family, and community members shared memories of his kindness and generosity.
Taylor Hoopii, a friend, wrote,
“Your Dad was the epitome of Aloha, and I always felt so good around him. He made our living in Utah so much easier, and the memories of being able to play music with him were the best.”
ViaLinda Hatt Hart recalled his compassion during a difficult time:
“He was our home teacher when my baby girl passed away, he was kind and loving and went out of his way to show he cared. He even showed up at my work and took me to lunch during that difficult time.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all! 💔❤️💔”
Cecil’s ability to connect with people was unmatched.
Following the loss, the Chang family is facing an unimaginable suffering.

Cecil is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lisa, their seven children, their spouses, and 22 grandchildren.
