UW Forward Dion Brown, 57, Passes Away, Leaving His Family Behind!

Dion Brown, a remarkable player in the University of Washington basketball community, passed away on May 3, 2026, at the age of 57.

However, the prime reason behind the cause of his death has yet to be disclosed.

Dion Brown is survived by his two sons, one of whom is Kionte Brown, and his daughter, Maija Brown. However, the exact number of his children remains unknown.

Likewise, details about his other surviving members aren’t unknown so far.

A campaign has been set up to help his family financially to cover his funeral and memorial service expenses.

Known for his dynamic presence on the court, Brown was a 6-foot-5 forward from Los Angeles who left a mark on the Huskies during his three seasons from 1988 to 1991.

Before NBA star Nate Robinson joined the team, Brown was known as one of the best dunkers in the program’s history.

“Dion was a special talent whose energy and flair brought excitement to every game,” said a UW Athletics spokesperson. “His legacy as a Husky will live on.”

Brown’s journey to Montlake began at Crenshaw High School in Los Angeles, followed by a season at Chaminade University in Hawaii, where he averaged 11.5 points and 5.4 rebounds in 1987.

After transferring to Washington, he sat out a year due to NCAA rules before becoming a three-year starter under coaches Andy Russo and Lynn Nance.

His senior season in 1990-91 was his finest, earning him team MVP and captain honors. Brown averaged 15.5 points and 7.9 rebounds per game for a 14-14 Husky squad.

He opened that season with a career-high 37 points against Portland, shooting an impressive 13-of-17 from the field in a 115-80 rout.

Over his Husky career, Brown amassed 1,056 points, joining an elite group of 43 players in program history to surpass the 1,000-point mark.

Brown’s career averages of 10.9, 11.3, and 15.5 points per season across his three years showcased his consistency and growth.

His passing leaves a void in the Husky community, although his contributions will remain immortal.
