Victoria Dowlen, a remarkable woman, passed away on July 5, 2026, at the age of 87 after a brave two-year fight with cancer.

Victoria passed away surrounded by her loving family and friends. She left behind a legacy of warmth, strength, and inspiration that affected many lives.

Trevecca Nazarene University, where she shone as a volleyball player and a cherished member of the community, announced her passing with heavy hearts, encouraging those who knew her to share their memories of a woman whose spirit lit up every room.

Born and raised in Cedar Hill, Tennessee, Victoria was a standout athlete at Jo Byrns High School, where she played volleyball under the guidance of TNU Hall of Fame coach Scott Jones during the fall of 2005.

Her talent was undeniable.

In that season, Victoria competed in 104 sets across 30 matches, racking up 73 kills and leading the team with 70 blocks (17 solo and 53 block assists).

She also contributed 27 digs, 121.5 points, and five service aces, proving her versatility and determination on the court.

Her sister, Donyatta Maress Dowlen, proudly called her the “Goat on the court,” a testament to her skill and competitive spirit that still brings a smile to those who knew her.

“Baby, let me tell you about my sister!!! Goat on the court and this speaks volumes!!!! I love this for her, great acknowledgment that makes my broken heart smile! 🧡”

Beyond her athletic achievements, Victoria was a devoted mother to three wonderful children: a son, a daughter, and one of a set of twins.

Her love for her children was boundless, and she poured her heart into raising them with the same strength and kindness she showed in every aspect of her life.

Victoria’s battle with cancer was marked by the same fierce determination she displayed on the volleyball court.

As her friend Jonathan Milan shared in a heartfelt tribute,

“No matter what she went through she trusted God no matter the situation she fought hard and didn’t complain. There’s alot i can say but please pray for her family the Dowlen/Burks her siblings mother/father but importantly her children. I love you Vickie 💔 you won and it’s time to receive your heavenly reward! No more pain no more suffering no more hospital visits! You are free my friend! FUCK CANCER . To her family if it’s anything me an my family could do please don’t hesitate to ask.”

Springfield, TN, And Trevecca Nazarene University Are Honoring Victoria’s Life

Her funeral service will be held at First Missionary Baptist Church, located at 1204 Cheatham Street, Springfield, TN 37172, on Saturday, July 12, 2026, at 1:00 PM.

Visitation is scheduled for Friday, July 11, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at W.D.

Crowder Funeral Home, 3326 John L. Patterson Street, Springfield, TN 37172, and again on Saturday, July 12, from noon to 1:00 PM at the church.

Victoria’s passing has left a void, but her legacy of love, strength, and faith endures.

Her sister Donyatta’s words capture the bittersweet pride of celebrating Victoria’s life: “This acknowledgment makes my broken heart smile.

As friends, family, and the Trevecca community share their memories, they honor a woman who lived with purpose and left an indelible mark on their hearts.
