Thomas Michael Baylis’ death marks the peaceful end of a life devoted to family and community.
Thomas Michael “Tommy” Baylis passed away on July 10, 2026, at the age of 73, at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center in Parksley, Virginia.
Known for his quiet strength and lifelong dedication to his community, Tommy’s death has brought sorrow to his family and those who knew him from his many years of service and mentorship.
Born in Brooklyn, New York, on November 1, 1951, Tommy was raised on the Eastern Shore of Virginia by his parents, Arthur William Baylis and Josephine Adamo “Jo” Baylis.
After graduating from Central High School, he relocated to Clifton Forge, where he pursued studies in agriculture and forestry—fields that reflected his deep appreciation for nature and hard work.
Professionally, Tommy dedicated several decades of his life to working at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
Beyond his formal employment, he was a fixture in the local community, giving his time generously as a Little League coach and mentor to countless children.
He returned to the Shore in 2026 to be closer to his family, spending his final years in the company of those who loved him most.
Tommy was predeceased by his beloved wife, Cindy Mae Baylis, and is survived by his siblings: Gary Arthur Baylis of Parksley, Patricia Baylis Gorman (John) of Nassawadox, and Kevin Wayne Baylis (Debbie) of Onley.
His extended family continues to honor his memory through the values he modeled—dedication, kindness, and service.
A graveside service will be held at Fairview Lawn Cemetery in Onancock, Virginia, on Friday, July 18, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., with Pastor Bobby Parks officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Activity Fund at Shore Health and Rehabilitation Center, both causes close to Tommy’s heart.
Through his steady presence and selfless contributions, Thomas Michael Baylis lived a life that quietly touched many. His passing closes a chapter filled with compassion, work, and the love of family.
